Let us briefly remember the festival years of Janáček Brno 2016 and 2018, days filled with unique experiences with both Czech and foreign performers and ensembles. The great productions, such as From the House of the Dead performed by the Welsh National Opera, Bluebeard’s Castle directed by David Radok, the stage flooded with water in the poetic production of Káťa Kabanová directed by Robert Carsen, newly reconstructed Janáček Theatre and The Cunning Little Vixen of Jiří Heřman and Marko Ivanović or The Makropulos Affair under the baton of Tomáš Netopil, directed by Kornél Mundruczó and performed by Opera Vlaanderen. Choral and chamber concerts and recitals performed by Ivo Kahánek, Thomas Adès and others. All of this and much more were the two last festival years – waiting outside the pit or at the gallery, pulling down stage decorations at night time, dealing with the issue of getting a piece of a plane in the elevator, obviously bigger than the elevator… and the joy of a beautiful performance or concert. Every single day of these festivals was great!
